Everyone wants to get their page ranking on Google so that they may obtain fee traffic. This is the holy grail of internet marketing, FREE TRAFFIC. A position 1 ranking.

How could I get this higher? Surely I could be at number 1 very soon. But the facts are that only one website or web page can rank at position 1 in Google at any one time. I had beaten 2,930,000 other web pages to reach a page ranking on Google of position 9 with some simple back linking and the correct titling and Meta tags on my website. I have no doubt with some more work I could improve this ranking.
So what are the alternatives, unless you know exactly what you are doing page 1 listings can be exceptionally time consuming to reach, so what are the alternatives?

Facinating Information Relating to How Companies are using and planning to use Soicial Media in the future to generate more business. A must for all marketers to read.
So I started out on the internet back in 1997, did I know the power then of what was to come, no. Did I even think that within 10 years the world would have changed rapidly, no?
I was just another person building a website as that was the thing to do with this new emerging technology. And I wasn’t even building them in fact I had without knowing executed my first joint venture, by collaborating with a designer to produce a soccer related website. It was all about getting online, on the internet, to be someone on The Information Super Highway, to have a website.
Cyber cafes were being created in high streets, pubs and cafes. The dot com era was gaining momentum, stock exchanges were bursting with the next internet winner, last minute dot com and Martha Lane Fox, Boo dot com the clothing range. Hotmail had started to give away free email address and viral marketing was born and there was even a search engine called Dog Pile! Google a mere embryo!
People were starting to worry if the world was going to stop in 2000 as all computers as we knew it would explode and overload with the date change and the world would come to an end as computers shut down in utter confusion with their dates set from the late 70s and early 80’s our fledgling computers were not built for the dawn of a new century!!
But look at us now, everyone one is plugged in and the speed of communication between individuals and countries would even inspire Mr Spock & Lt Uhura, seen as they were the communication experts of the 60’s (so my Dad told me)! But look what became reality from that TV series, our smart phones today are even more advanced than their intergalactic communications could ever perceive? We just can’t beam people around, yet!
The internet, which is so mobile now, is the world at your finger tips. Information on demand, instantly, on any subject you desire. Communication across countries as simple and as quick as shouting through the window to your neighbour or just plugging into Skype!
Today there are no barriers; even language is no problem as Google has translation software. Or at the touch of a button you can outsource the most mundane tasks or high tech constructions to economies across the globe.
Yes indeed we now have the world at our finger tips. Google the super power house of search, You Tube with 2 billion videos being watched daily starting to replace the television and Facebook the youngest and yet soon to be biggest country on the planet situated within cyberspace. 600 million registered people communicating 24 hours a day across a social media platform sharing, growing succeeding together. Enjoying the best of times, the worst of times through photos, video and chat, liking, commenting and sharing.
The development continues with Fan Pages which will now integrate websites and develop Edge Rank the beginning of Social Media Search. The ability to have a marketplace as big and as targeted within a 7 year period is mind blowing! A business still within its infancy, but growing at an exponential rate.
With the hit of a button Fan Pages can market the launch of new products within seconds to their brand loyal customers. Starbucks itself still a relatively young company able to reach out to 19 million people in an instant on their fan page because of one students desire to meet girls!
We can now advertise on mobile phones across the world and implement this within 30 mins to a global audience with a total of 4 billion mobile phones.
You Tube allows us to become our own TV personality creating channels to promote goods and services or just for fun to share our experiences in video as they happen. Smartphone’s allow us to video and upload online within minutes.
Marketers utilising the power of video to connect within their marketplace with a more personal touch to build relationships with their customers and now with video software packages we have the integration of PayPal the ability for our customers to buy through video.
With the combination of Facebook Websites, Facebook search on the way and the integration of video within these websites combined with the opportunity to buy through them are we going to see the global domination of Google fall and will Facebook emerge as the front runner social media platform for search as well as conversation and the sharing of videos and photos between friends.
Having seen teenagers today glued to their smart phones sharing information with speed who have grown up with Facebook and feel they could not do without it, this is not a fad so the next generation could become the ‘baby boomers’ of the future, demanding and consuming more than ever all at the touch of a button or in the Smartphone’s case the touch of a screen.
Does Facebook Have a Search Preference? Yes It Does And it Is Called ‘Edge Rank’.
Edge Rank can effect your visability on Facebook which is essential especially if you are using Facebook as a marketing tool.
On Facebook you place updates on your Facebook Profile , page or group and you want your friends, fans or group members to see these posts within their News Feed and hopefully you receive ‘Like’ clicks, comments, or for full exposure your posts may be shared amoungst your friends friends etc.
Have you ever noticed that your posts do not appear? Ever wondered why? Well this result can occur for a variety of reasons, but effectively this is Facebooks Edge Rank in operation and this result can occur for a number of reasons..
• Few Eyeballs- the quantity of your friends fans or members is small to begin with and since few check their news feeds regularly your posts go unnoticed.
• Relevance- Your posts are irregularor simply fail to resonate with your audience, they do not appeal enough for people to engage with them.
• Passivity- Many people lack the assertiveness or focus to react to your posts and share them, even if they enjoy them.
• Low Edge Rank- Facebook buries your posts so far down in peoples News Feed that they are effectively invisible. Facebook uses Edge Rank to assess the importance or your posted content. A high Facebook Edge Rank leads to visibility while a low facebook edge Rank leads to obscurity. Your posts are competing with others and a relatively low Edge Rank keeps them from appearing.
There are 3 factors that influence the Edge Rank of your content
Relationship- the relationship of your potential audience as perceived by Facebook. The more you interact with Facebook Isers the higher the Edge Rank of your posts and the higher your posts will appear on their walls. Facebook rewards you for building personal relationships and lets face it that’s what Facebook is a Social Network. So invest time reading, commenting and sharing peoples content and your Edge Rank will increase dramatically.
Engagement- this is how much people engage with your posts. Strong Interactions will drive up your Facebooks Edge Rank, of course someone has to see your post and react to it in the first place, so think about using satus updates that ask a question so that interaction has to occur!
Time Elapse – Over time your posts lose Edge Rank that make way for newer posts. No one posts remain consistent so you must keep producing new quality content to be commented on in order to stay prominent within Edge Ranking
In concluding Facebook values relationships between its members and engagement with the content that is posted. Give Facebook what Facebook values and your content and Edge Rank will flourish and visibly benefit. Use Facebook for pushing your ads and agenda and your Edge Rank will visibly suffer.

With that said, you should know that there is fierce competition online. This is regardless of the market you’re after. Whether you’re targeting a local audience, a national one or if you want to cater to international prospects, having a website is definitely beneficial. Online marketing, itself, is a pretty tricky thing. Some people find it complicated but with a bit of studying and practice, you’ll be able to grasp and apply the principles properly.
Now, to help you get started with marketing your business online, here are a few things that you can do.
1. Build a website – Having a website basically gives you an online presence. This website would be just like your shop but instead of having a brick and mortar one; it would be pages containing information regarding your business. Remember that this website has to appeal and attract various clienteles and should be very easy to use. One that is too complicated to use, overly designed, distracting and takes too long to load is a definite no-no. As mentioned earlier, make it convenient for your clients. They would love you for it.
2. Get your own domain – This would serve as your calling card. Think of a name, one that’s memorable and use that for your domain name. It would help people remember you quickly. Also having your own domain builds credibility and if you’re just starting out, credibility is what you would need.
3. Take advantage of various marketing tools – One aspect of marketing your business online is the actual campaign to get the word out about it. There are various online tools, some expensive whilst there are those that are either free or cheap, which you can use in order to generate hype for your business. There’s blogging, article writing, online communities, forums, social networking sites and AdWords which should help bring traffic to your website and make people take notice of what you have to offer.
4. Build a reputation – Marketing your business online would also involve the way you treat your customers. Reputation is one of the major factors to a business’ success regardless of whether its offline or online. Make sure that you treat every customer well and equally. Provide them with answers to their questions and make sure that you maintain a good reputation because once something negative comes up about you, you risk losing existing and potential clients.
So there you have it, just some of the things that you should know about marketing your business online. Remember, regardless of whether your business is online or offline, be honest and do your job properly.
